Clear plastic is back. Sony has announced the Prism Collection, a set of transparent DualSense controllers and matching PS5 console covers, in a post on the PlayStation Blog. Every PlayStation generation since the original has had a see-through pad at some point, and this is the PS5's turn.

Three colours, glossy finish

The collection comes in Flare Orange, Emerald Green and Graphite Gray. According to Sony's colour and materials team, the high-gloss clear shell runs across the back of the controller so you can see the hardware inside, while a metallic finish on the middle section ties the transparent parts together. The designers say the orange takes on a rosy tint where layers of plastic overlap, the green gets deeper through the transparency, and the grey has a cool, stormy tone.

The console covers come in the same three colours. They are tinted shells that clip onto the PS5, so don't expect a view of the console's internals the way you get with the controller.

Worth it?

Sony presents these as regular DualSense wireless controllers in a new shell, so expect the usual haptics and adaptive triggers; the extra cost over a standard pad is for the looks. They're also not an "Edge" pro controller, so there are no back buttons or swappable sticks. If you play on a computer too, our PC game controller buying guide explains how the DualSense compares with Xbox pads on Windows. And if you're planning a long session with the year's biggest release, here's what to know about the GTA VI download size and PS5 preload.
