Fresh from launching Dune: Awakening on PlayStation 5, Funcom has lined up two more open-world survival games for Sony's console. Aloft and Conan Exiles Enhanced are both due on PS5 in early 2027, Funcom's communications manager Jarle Hrafn Grindhaug wrote on the PlayStation Blog. Exact release dates have not been announced yet.

Aloft: the full game, not an Early Access port

Aloft is a cosy co-op sandbox survival game from developer Astrolabe, with Funcom as publisher on console. You turn floating islands into skyships, build a home in the clouds, look after animals and cure a fungal corruption spreading through the ecosystem, alone or with friends.

The PS5 release will be the complete game: it includes the updates shipped during the PC Early Access period (Funcom counts five major content updates, adding wildlife, puzzles, combat changes, glider customisation and more exploration) plus the 1.0 content. It is the game's first console version after six years of development.

Conan Exiles Enhanced: a free upgrade for PS4 owners

The bigger news for existing players is the upgrade policy:

  • Everyone who owns Conan Exiles on PlayStation gets the PS5 Enhanced version free.
  • Both PS4 and PS5 versions stay on sale, and buying one gives you the other.
  • Purchased Bazaar items and DLC carry over from PS4 to PS5.
  • The Isle of Siptah expansion remains a separate purchase.

Funcom says Enhanced brings improved environments, characters, lighting and effects, a redesigned interface, and performance and quality-of-life fixes. The new Legacy of the Giant-Kings story arc will be included at the console launch. Funcom's own announcement adds that Enhanced is also coming to Xbox Series X|S, with a free upgrade from Xbox One, and that full cross-play will follow soon after launch.

Two things to know before you upgrade

  • Isle of Siptah bases will not survive the move. Siptah has been merged into the Exiled Lands map with new coordinates, so existing bases there cannot be preserved; Exiled Lands characters, followers and bases on official servers carry forward.
  • Spend Crom Coins you want to use in the old version. Once Enhanced launches, the Bazaar is switched off in the Legacy edition, though your coins carry over to Enhanced. Single-player saves move to Enhanced one way only.

Our take

Free current-gen upgrades with carried-over purchases are the right way to handle an ageing survival game, and they lower the risk of waiting for Enhanced rather than buying the PS4 version now.
