Small phones used to mean small batteries. The X8s is the latest sign that trade-off is going away.

Xiaomi's POCO brand has quietly put the POCO X8s on sale before announcing it. The phone is listed for pre-order on Xiaomi's official Shopee store in Vietnam, Notebookcheck reports, and it is the most interesting POCO this autumn for one reason: it's small but has a huge battery.

What the listing confirms

  • Display: 6.35-inch OLED.
  • Chip: Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4.
  • Battery: 6,330 mAh with 100 W wired charging.
  • Cameras: 50 MP main and 8 MP ultrawide.
  • Other: IP68 rating, HyperOS, White, Black and Blue colours. Notebookcheck says the design resembles the Redmi K90.
  • Prices in Vietnam: 8/256 GB for 11,500,000 dong (about $437), 12/512 GB for 14,000,000 dong (about $532). Launch vouchers cut them to about $313 and $387. Shipping is set for November 6–9, and early buyers get Redmi Buds 6 Play while stocks last.

It's the fifth X8 model after the X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max in March and the X8 and X8 Power in September. POCO hasn't confirmed other markets yet, though the phone has passed several international certifications under model number 2609CPC5FG.

Our take

For years, "compact Android phone" meant accepting a 4,000-something mAh battery and anxious evenings. Denser battery cells have been changing that across the industry, and the X8s brings the idea to the midrange: more than 6,000 mAh in a phone with a 6.35-inch screen, plus 100 W charging that should refill it quickly with the right brick. Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is a sensible pick here, aimed at efficiency rather than benchmark records.

There are caveats. This is a retail listing, not a launch, so the full spec sheet, the selfie camera and any global pricing are still unconfirmed, and early reports differ on the camera setup. Vietnamese prices also rarely translate directly to Europe. And we haven't tested it, so battery-life claims remain claims.

Still, if you want a phone that fits a pocket and lasts two days, this is one to watch.
