iPhone Duo battery is 4,883 mAh: how it compares

Quick verdictBigger than any iPhone except the two latest Pro Max models, but the large inner screen cuts Apple's rated video time by about 30%.

Apple never quotes battery capacities on stage, but the numbers always surface in regulatory paperwork. After iPhone Duo pre-orders opened, Apple uploaded an EU regulatory document for its first foldable, and 9to5Mac dug out the figure: 4,883 mAh in total.

The Duo uses two cells, one of 2,962 mAh and one of 1,921 mAh. That's a common trick in foldables, which split the battery across both halves of the body.

iPhone Duo vs other iPhones

The capacities below are for the eSIM versions, which have slightly larger cells than models with a physical SIM tray. Video playback times are Apple's own ratings, as compiled by 9to5Mac. They aren't our tests.

What the numbers mean

On paper the Duo sits almost exactly between the iPhone 18 Pro (4,288 mAh) and the 18 Pro Max (5,567 mAh). It also beats the older iPhone 16 Pro Max (4,685 mAh).

Capacity isn't the whole story, though. Apple rates the Duo for up to 44 hours of video on the outer display, close to the 18 Pro Max. On the large inner display that drops to 31 hours, roughly 30% less. If you plan to keep the phone unfolded most of the day, expect battery life closer to a regular Pro than a Pro Max.

+ Pros

  • One of the largest batteries Apple has put in an iPhone
  • Outer-screen video rating nearly matches the 18 Pro Max

− Cons

  • Inner-screen use cuts rated video time to 31 hours
  • Real-world foldable battery life is unknown until reviews arrive

Our verdict

Solid for a first foldable, as long as you don't live on the big screen

A 4,883 mAh dual-cell battery is generous by iPhone standards. The trade-off is the inner display, which uses noticeably more power, so heavy tablet-style users may want a power bank and a fast USB-C charger. Independent battery tests should follow once the Duo ships on October 23.
