Quick verdictOne of the first Matter cameras you can actually reserve, with real local recording, but it's a crowdfunding add-on tied to a hub that costs $799 or more and ships in 2027.

Cameras are the last big gap in Matter, the standard that lets smart home gear work across Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa and others. UGREEN, better known for chargers and NAS drives, wants to fill it early. Its SynCare Indoor Cam ID500 Pro is now open for reservations alongside a new home hub called HomeAgent, Matter Alpha reports. If you're new to the standard, our Matter and Thread explainer covers the basics.

The camera

According to UGREEN and Matter Alpha, the ID500 Pro has:

  • An 8 MP sensor recording 4K HDR, a 4 mm f/1.6 lens, 8x digital zoom and "starlight" night vision.
  • A motorised base with 360° pan and 111° tilt, plus automatic tracking of people and pets.
  • Wi‑Fi 6 on 2.4 and 5 GHz, power over USB‑C (5 V, 2 A), and a physical privacy shutter.

What Matter 1.5.1 brings

Its certification filing shows the camera runs Matter 1.5.1, part of the 1.5 generation of the standard that introduced cameras. It can stream video, carry two-way audio and record clips over Matter, and you can pan, tilt, zoom and save presets from any compatible Matter app. Night vision, HDR, image flip, speaker and mic volume, and the status light are all exposed too. So are the privacy modes and whether the shutter is closed, as well as custom motion zones. Recordings don't go to the cloud. They go to the HomeAgent hub, which runs UGREEN's UGOS Pro, stores footage locally and runs AI features at home, such as event summaries, baby-cry alerts and keyword search.

Prices and shipping

The hardware is sold through a Kickstarter campaign starting 17 November. A $50 deposit now locks in early pricing. The camera is an add-on that you buy once you've reserved a hub.

The HomeAgent HA100 hub (26 TOPS of AI compute, 16 GB of memory, up to 96 TB of storage) is $799 for early backers, against a stated $1,599 retail price. The faster HA100 Pro is listed at $2,699. UGREEN says it ships to the US, Canada, the UK, most of the EU (not Ireland or Lithuania), Australia and Singapore.

+ Pros

  • Full Matter camera support, including PTZ and recording, not just a basic stream
  • Video and AI stay on a box in your home, with no cloud subscription
  • Physical lens shutter whose state is visible to your smart home app

− Cons

  • Crowdfunding, not retail: specs and dates can still change
  • The camera is an add-on to a $799+ hub
  • First units ship in late February 2027

Why it matters

Matter Alpha notes that Eve, TP-Link, Ezviz and others have announced Matter cameras but slowed their releases, leaving Aqara as the only option on the global market so far. It's a busy season for home cameras elsewhere too: Ring just launched its first smart lock and new 4K cameras.

Our verdict

Interesting for local-first early adopters; most people should wait

If you want a camera that works across ecosystems and keeps footage at home, the ID500 Pro looks like one of the most complete Matter implementations so far. But you're backing a crowdfunding project and buying into a pricey hub, with delivery months away. If you need a camera this winter, our home security camera buying guide covers what to look for today.
