Nintendo has published its final warm-up guide before Nintendo Switch Sports Resort goes on sale on 22 October, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The game is set on Wuhu Island, the holiday island from the Wii era, and is built around motion controls that anyone can pick up. Here's what you get, based on Nintendo's guide and the official store page.

Two brand-new sports

Thumb Wrestling asks you to pin your opponent's thumb for three seconds. Nintendo's tip: hold your thumb down and it grows bigger and stronger. Skateboarding uses the Joy-Con 2 as a mouse to grind rails, slide and pull off aerial tricks. It's one of the clearest uses yet of the Switch 2 controller's mouse mode in a party game.

Ten returning sports

The rest of the line-up will be familiar: Power Cruising (twist the controller for a boost), Archery (watch the wind), Bowling (twist to add spin), Table Tennis, Boxing, Prop Plane (tilt to roll and pop balloons), Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball and Golf. There's also Jump Rope as a warm-up.

An island to explore

You can tour Wuhu Island by land, sea and air: by Power Cruiser, on a skateboard or in a Prop Plane. A Sightseeing Tour mode adds challenges and lets you collect Spocco Photos.

A proper single-player mode

Island Crown is built for solo play. You take on the Island Champions and Legends, including the Mii character Matt, across nine sports, earning cosmetics and Spocco Points as you climb.

Local and online play

  • One console: up to four players offline. Extra Joy-Con 2 controllers may be needed.
  • Private lobbies: up to eight players online, two per console, with GameChat support.
  • Casual online matches in nine sports, and a ranked online Pro League matched by skill. Online play requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Dress-up and the Item Center

You can customise your character's hair, outfit, accessories and body type. Spocco Points buy more items from the Item Center, which gets two collections every week and new themed items every month.

Before you buy

The US store lists 18 interface languages, including Polish and Russian, but not Ukrainian. Nintendo also sells a Switch 2 bundle with a full download of the game and a three-month Switch Online membership. If you're short on space, see our microSD Express explainer for the only cards the console accepts for games. Also worth knowing: Europe is getting a new Switch 2 model with a user-replaceable battery, and the free Monster Hunter Wilds demo if you want something less family-friendly.
