Volkswagen has a new weapon in China's crowded electric sedan market. Volkswagen Anhui launched the ID. UNYX 09 on Saturday, 24 October, as its second model developed together with Xpeng, after the ID. UNYX 08 SUV, CnEVPost reports.

Prices and trims

The car comes in three trims, Ultra, a fully equipped version and Max, with official prices of 179,900, 219,900 and 249,900 yuan (about $26,800 to $37,200). That entry price is 20,000 yuan lower than the 199,900 yuan VW quoted when pre-sales opened on 24 September.

There is also a limited "Double 11" launch offer: 169,900 yuan (about $25,290), but only for the Ultra trim in black and only for 500 cars. Launch offers apply to deposits paid between 24 October and 30 November.

Battery, range and charging

  • Size: 5,081 mm long with a 3,030 mm wheelbase, in a fastback body.
  • Battery: about 92 kWh on every version, using 5C fast-charging cells from CATL. VW Anhui says it can add 250 km of range in 5 minutes.
  • Range (CLTC): up to 755 km for the rear-wheel-drive Ultra and fully equipped trims; 705 km for the dual-motor Max.
  • Power: 230 kW (308 hp) at the rear; the Max adds a 140 kW front motor.

CLTC figures are China's test cycle and usually come out well above real-world or WLTP numbers, so treat them as a comparison tool rather than a promise. Our LFP vs NMC battery explainer covers why chemistry and charging rate matter as much as the headline range.

Xpeng's brain inside

The most "un-Volkswagen" part is the electronics. Every ID. UNYX 09 has Xpeng's Turing AI chip rated at 750 TOPS and a driver-assistance system built on a VLA (vision-language-action) model. It supports highway and urban navigation-assisted driving, parking-space-to-parking-space assistance and remote parking. An 85-inch AR head-up display and a 15.6-inch centre screen are standard; the two upper trims add air suspension and adaptive damping.

Why it matters

VW invested about $700 million in Xpeng in 2023 to speed up its China line-up, and the ID. UNYX 09 is the payoff in the sedan segment, where it faces rivals from BYD, Xiaomi and Xpeng itself. There is no word on sales outside China; in Europe, VW's push for cheaper EVs centres on the planned ID. Every1.
