NVIDIA has released RTX Remix 1.6, the newest version of its free toolkit for remastering older PC games with path tracing and AI-generated assets. This release brings new rendering features, a first step into Minecraft and support for Windows on Arm, according to the release notes on GitHub.
1. DLSS 5 for mods
Remix now supports DLSS 5 "3D-Guided Neural Rendering", the technique NVIDIA recently added to big games such as Hogwarts Legacy. Modders can choose between three model variants (A, B and C), tune highlights and volumetrics, and use per-material masks to decide which surfaces the neural renderer touches.
2. More generated frames
On supported RTX 50 series cards, Remix games can use 5x and 6x Multi Frame Generation. There is also a beta Frame Generation performance mode (Preset C), and Sparse Rendering that works with DLSS Ray Reconstruction.
3. Minecraft Java beta
A beta Fabric mod for Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 uses a new API-based rendering pipeline instead of the classic DirectX 8/9 hooks Remix normally relies on. It comes with a PBR resource pack and a demo map, Blockworks. NVIDIA warns that compatibility with other mods is limited.
4. Windows on Arm
Remix now runs on Arm64 Windows PCs, with day-one support for Portal with RTX, the Half-Life 2 RTX demo and the Minecraft mod.
5. Tools for creators
- OpenEXR HDR textures and skyboxes,
- ComfyUI 2.0 integration for AI texture work,
- a headless Toolkit for automated workflows,
- the Remix MCP server now uses Streamable HTTP, so AI assistants can connect to it locally.
You need driver 616.92 or newer. Remix 1.6 is available on GitHub and through the NVIDIA App.
Who it's for
If you just play, you will see these features once mod authors adopt them, and most of the headline items need a recent RTX card. Planning an upgrade?
