Volkswagen is lining up an even cheaper electric car below the ID. Polo. According to Electrek, the production version of the ID. EVERY1 concept will arrive in 2027 at a starting price of around €20,000 (about $22,500), making it the brand's most affordable EV so far.

Where it fits

The new model joins VW Group's Electric Urban Car Family, its answer to low-cost Chinese EVs. That family already includes the ID. Polo, ID. Cross, Cupra Raval and Škoda Epiq, all on the MEB+ platform. The base ID. Polo starts at €24,995 and the base ID. Cross at €27,995. VW brand chief Thomas Schäfer called the small car "the last piece of the puzzle" in its volume line-up.

Electrek says the car is expected to go on sale as the ID. Up!, reviving the name of VW's old city car, but that name is not confirmed.

What VW has said so far

  • Length: 3,880 mm, between the old Up! (3,600 mm) and the ID. Polo (4,053 mm).
  • Space: seats for four and a 305-litre boot, according to VW.
  • Motor: a new 70 kW (94 hp) electric motor, with a top speed of 130 km/h.
  • Range: at least 250 km (155 miles), VW says.

The battery has not been announced. Electrek expects VW to use the same 37 kWh LFP pack as the entry-level ID. Polo and ID. Cross to keep costs down; in the ID. Polo that pack is rated at up to 334 km WLTP. Treat that as an expectation, not a spec. If you're wondering what LFP means for daily use, our LFP vs NMC battery explainer covers the trade-offs.

Where it will be built

VW has not named a plant. Spanish magazine Autofácil reports it could be built in Spain, where the group already makes the ID. Polo and Cupra Raval (Martorell) and the ID. Cross and Škoda Epiq (Navarra).

Context

The small-car push is off to a decent start: VW Group said earlier this month that the Electric Urban Car Family had nearly 150,000 orders since series production began in June, as we covered in our story on VW's entry-level EV orders. The €20,000 car is one of nine new models VW plans to launch by 2027. It is a European model; US buyers will instead get the ID. Tiguan in 2027 as the ID.4's replacement.

Full specs, the final name and the exact price are still to come. For the pricier ID. Cross and its 37 kWh battery, see our earlier ID. Cross €27,995 report.
