Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: 1,153 hp EV with 710 kW charging
Mercedes-AMG has revealed the GT SUV, its first bespoke electric SUV: up to 1,153 hp, a 128 kWh battery and 10–80% charging in about 12 minutes.

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the AMG GT SUV, a high-riding sibling to the electric AMG GT 4-Door. Unlike most performance SUVs, it is not a tuned version of an existing Mercedes: it is a bespoke AMG model built on the same AMG.EA platform as the four-door, with a larger battery, faster charging and new suspension. The details come from Mercedes' reveal, reported by InsideEVs and other outlets on Saturday.
Three versions, up to 1,153 hp
Three models are planned, and all of them reach US dealers from summer 2027. Every version has all-wheel drive that can mechanically disconnect the front motor to save energy, plus standard six-degree rear-wheel steering.
| GT 53 | GT 55 | GT 63 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motors | 2 synchronous | 3 axial-flux | 3 axial-flux |
| Peak power / torque | 536 hp / 590 lb-ft | 805 hp / 1,372 lb-ft | 1,153 hp / 1,475 lb-ft |
| 0–60 mph (claimed) | 4.1 s | 3.0 s | 2.6 s |
| Peak DC charging | 600 kW | 710 kW | 710 kW |
| WLTP range target | 371–415 mi | 385–435 mi | 385–435 mi |
The GT 53 keeps a two-speed transmission at the rear. The three-motor versions drop it and instead control each rear wheel separately for sharper torque vectoring.
The charging numbers are the headline
The GT 55 and GT 63 carry 128 kWh of usable battery, up from 106 kWh in the four-door, and peak charging rises from 600 kW to 710 kW. Mercedes claims they can add 48 kWh in five minutes and 83 kWh in ten, and go from 10 to 80% in about 12 minutes, or 16 minutes on a 400 kW charger. The GT 53 uses the smaller battery and quotes 11 minutes. All versions support 11 kW AC charging, NACS ports in the US and automatic switching to 400 volts at older DC stations.
Those times depend on chargers that can actually deliver that kind of power, which are still rare. For everyday use, a good home EV charger and sensible battery care habits matter more than the peak figure.
Design and cabin
The SUV gets a wide grille with star-shaped daytime running lights, a fastback roofline, frameless side windows and six round tail lights. The GT 55 and GT 63 add an active rear spoiler. Inside are a 14-inch central touchscreen angled towards the driver, a 10.2-inch instrument display and an optional 14-inch passenger screen. A new Active Ride Control+ suspension fights pitch under braking and acceleration as well as body roll; it is standard on the GT 63 and optional on the GT 55. Simulated gear shifts and V8 or six-cylinder soundtracks carry over from the four-door.
Mercedes has not announced prices. For reference, the AMG GT 4-Door EV starts at €115,430 in Germany. The brand's software push, including its recent partnership with Nvidia, is the other half of its electric strategy.
