Geely's EX2 hits 1 million units in two years
Geely has built its millionth Xingyuan, sold abroad as the EX2, two years after launch. Why China's best-selling car of 2025 now needs export markets to grow.

A million small electric hatchbacks in two years is a production feat. The harder part starts now: China's appetite is cooling, so the next million have to find buyers abroad.
What happened. Geely has rolled its 1,000,000th Xingyuan off the production line, about two years after the small electric hatchback went on sale in China on 9 October 2024. Outside China the car is sold as the Geely EX2, and as the E2 in some markets. Geely Galaxy announced the milestone on Weibo on Tuesday and said the model currently sells at an average of one car per minute, CnEVPost reports.

Why it sells. It's cheap and well specified for the money. After a May update, the car started from a limited-time 61,800 yuan (about $9,200) in China, with CATL cells and three CLTC range options of 310, 410 and 480 km. CarNewsChina points out that it uses rear-wheel drive and multi-link rear suspension, where rivals such as the Seagull use front-wheel drive and a simpler torsion beam. In 2025 it was China's best-selling model of any kind, with 465,775 retail sales according to the China Passenger Car Association.
The catch. This year's numbers are lower. From January to September, Xingyuan retail sales in China fell 9.6% year on year to 310,391, as the wider domestic market weakened. September was the best month of 2026 so far at 44,275, still almost 8% below a year earlier. That's why the EX2 badge matters: the car is already sold in Latin America, Southeast Asia, Australia and the UK, and local assembly started in Indonesia in January.
Our take. The milestone says less about Geely than about where the EV market's volume is. Cheap, small, LFP-powered hatchbacks are moving in numbers premium EVs can only dream of. China's recent record EV share and rivals like the Leapmotor A10s keep the pressure on at home. In Europe, Volkswagen's ID. Cross at €27,995 shows how far local makers still are from Chinese pricing.
