Santa Monica Studio has delayed God of War Laufey by about three months. The PlayStation 5 exclusive was due on February 16, 2027; it now arrives on May 20, 2027, The Verge reports.

What the studio said

In its announcement the studio thanked fans for the reaction since the June reveal and said it wants to use the extra time for "finishing touches" and to push the game "to its fullest potential". No other reason was given, and there is no word on changes to pre-orders beyond the new date.

What Laufey is

Laufey moves the series away from Kratos for the lead role. Players control Faye, Kratos's late wife and Atreus's mother, again voiced and performed by Deborah Ann Woll, on a journey through a realm called the Everywhen. A 23-minute gameplay reveal earlier this year showed faster, more acrobatic combat than the 2018 and Ragnarök games.

A spring slot also moves Laufey away from a crowded early-2027 release window. If you are planning which hardware to play it on, our gaming headset buying guide and PC game controller guide cover the accessories side.
