Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan Plus vs the original: what changed

Quick verdictPick the Plus if you want readings at eye level and the deeper 50+ metric report; the original Ultra BodyScan still covers the basics and the arm, leg and torso split for about $30 less.
Jump to the verdict ↓Smart scales usually make you look down at your feet to read the result. Wyze's new model brings the numbers up to your hands. The Wyze Scale Ultra BodyScan Plus went on sale today (19 October) in black or white on Wyze's online store for $149.99, The Verge reports. It updates the Ultra BodyScan that launched about a year ago.
What stays the same
Both scales have a retractable handle with extra electrodes. By holding it while you stand on the scale, you get a segmental breakdown of your arms, legs and torso using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), not just a single body-fat number. The Plus has a glass top coated with conductive indium tin oxide (ITO), so it can measure wherever your feet are placed.
What's new on the Plus
- Screen on the handle: the 4.3-inch customisable colour display now sits in the middle of the handle. The handle docks back onto the scale, and you can still weigh yourself without lifting it.
- More metrics: over 50, up from 13 on the original, adding visceral fat, protein and basal metabolic rate (the minimum calories your body needs each day).
- Sync without a subscription: data goes to Apple Health, Google Health and Health Connect over Bluetooth through your phone, or straight to the cloud over Wi-Fi. Wyze charges no monthly or yearly fee for this.
- Households: up to eight registered users, plus unlimited guest weigh-ins and a mode for weighing children, pets or luggage while you hold them.

+ Pros
- Results at eye level, no bending down
- Much more detailed body composition report
- Free sync to Apple Health, Google Health and Health Connect
− Cons
- About $30 more than the original
- BIA readings are estimates, not medical measurements
- Only sold through Wyze's own online store at launch
The free sync matters more than it used to. Rival Withings now charges new users for Apple Health sync through a Withings+ subscription. If you track health on your wrist too, see our coverage of the Fitbit Edge and Samsung Health's new coaching.
Our verdict
Plus for eye-level readings and deeper data
If you weigh in every morning and want the full report without picking up your phone, the BodyScan Plus is the more convenient scale. If you mainly want weight, body fat and the limb-by-limb split, the original Ultra BodyScan does that for about $30 less.
