OnePlus has begun rolling out stable Android 17 to the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4, and the update marks a turning point for the brand's software. Instead of a new version of OxygenOS, owners get ColorOS 17, OPPO's Android skin, as 9to5Google reports.

The end of OxygenOS

OxygenOS has been OnePlus's version of Android for years. It started out close to stock Android with a few extra features, then gradually became a globally tuned build of OPPO's ColorOS. When OnePlus wound down most of its global operations, it also said OxygenOS would be retired and existing devices would switch to ColorOS. This update is where that switch begins.

ColorOS 17 launched globally on OPPO's Find X10 series earlier this month. We covered its new Living Flow design and agentic AI features, and Google's anti-doomscrolling tool Pause Point has already appeared on OnePlus phones running the ColorOS 17 beta.

Who gets it and when

  • Now: OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4, starting in India. The update had been in beta for a while.
  • Ahead of schedule: OnePlus's original timeline put the first stable updates on October 29.
  • Next wave: due on October 30 and including the OnePlus 13.
  • Later: other recent flagships and a range of Nord devices are confirmed for the update.

The rollout should reach other regions in the coming days, though OnePlus has not given dates for each market. As usual with staged updates, it can take a while for every phone to see it, so keep an eye on Settings > System > Software update.

OnePlus is not alone in moving to Android 17 this month: Samsung has confirmed the devices getting One UI 9.
