BYD has put the third-generation Qin Plus DM-i on sale in China. The plug-in hybrid sedan is one of the brand's best-known family cars, and the update brings a bigger body, a little more electric range and an optional LiDAR driver-assistance package, CnEVPost reports.

Prices

The car launched on Tuesday, 27 October, in three versions. All three are 3,000 yuan below guide price for a limited time:

VersionElectric range (CLTC)Guide priceLaunch price
Leading140 km79,900 yuan76,900 yuan
Beyond220 km90,900 yuan87,900 yuan
Excellence220 km100,900 yuan97,900 yuan

The entry price works out to roughly $11,450. These are Chinese-market prices; BYD has not announced the new generation for other markets.

Bigger body

The new Qin Plus DM-i measures 4,840 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,498 mm tall, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. That is 60 mm longer, 63 mm wider and 17 mm taller than before, with an 82 mm longer wheelbase, which should help rear legroom. The styling gets a new front end and a fastback roofline, while keeping the full-width tail lights.

Powertrain and range

It keeps BYD's fifth-generation DM hybrid system: a 1.5-litre petrol engine (74 kW) working with an electric motor (120 kW / 161 hp). Two LFP battery packs are offered, 16.2 kWh and 24.3 kWh, for 140 km or 220 km of CLTC electric range. The previous model topped out at 210 km. Charging from 30% to 80% takes as little as 20 minutes, BYD says.

With a full tank and a charged battery, BYD claims a combined range of up to 2,290 km, and fuel use as low as 2.58 l/100 km (NEDC) once the battery is depleted. Chinese CLTC and NEDC figures are usually more generous than real-world driving.

LiDAR and cabin

The optional God's Eye B system uses LiDAR and supports navigation assistance on city streets and highways, plus automated parking. Inside there is a new DiLink 150 system with an 8.8-inch driver display and a 10.1- or 12.8-inch central screen.

Why it matters

The refresh lands at a tough moment: according to CnEVPost, cumulative Qin family sales fell 54.71% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2026. We covered the early regulatory filings for the new Qin Plus earlier this month. For background, see our explainers on LFP vs NMC batteries and LiDAR vs camera-only driver assistance.

Astronomers say GRB 220706A's central engine stayed active for about 27 days, flaring in X-rays far later than any burst before. What may power it and why it matters.
