Acer first showed the Predator Atlas 8 at Computex 2026, but it kept the most important number to itself until now. The Windows gaming handheld will cost $1,300 in the US and goes on sale on November 1, exclusively at Best Buy, Android Authority reports.
Despite that price, Acer says the first round of pre-orders sold out last week. If you missed it, online orders reopen on November 1, the same day the device reaches stores.
What you get
The headline part is Intel's Arc G3 Extreme processor, the chip Acer is relying on to make the Atlas 8 a serious portable gaming PC rather than a cloud-streaming gadget. The rest of the confirmed spec sheet:
- Display: 8-inch touchscreen, 1920 × 1200, 120Hz with variable refresh rate (VRR)
- Battery: 80Wh
- Controls: TMR joysticks (magnetic sensors designed to resist stick drift) and dual-mode triggers
- Cooling: two fans
- Software: Windows 11, so Steam, other PC stores and Xbox Game Pass for PC all work
Acer also mentions connectivity for hooking the handheld up to a monitor and accessories at a desk, though the report doesn't list the exact ports.
The $1,300 question
That price puts the Atlas 8 well above most handhelds and in the territory of a capable gaming laptop. To justify it, the Arc G3 Extreme has to run games noticeably better than cheaper rivals, without draining the battery in an hour or getting uncomfortably hot. There are no independent benchmarks or battery tests yet, so for now those are open questions. We'll know more once reviews arrive after launch.
Who should wait, and who shouldn't
If you mainly play lighter games or stream from the cloud, a cheaper device will do; our explainer on what cloud gaming is covers that route. If you want to play your existing PC library on the go and don't mind paying early-adopter prices, the Atlas 8 is one of the most powerful Intel-based options announced so far.
