If you use Samsung Community, Samsung's official forum for Galaxy owners, now is the time to save anything you care about. The platform goes offline for 72 hours this week for what Samsung calls a "major overhaul", and some data won't survive the move, Android Authority reports. Here is what you need to know, step by step.

Note the dates

The shutdown starts on Thursday, 30 October, at 5 a.m. ET (11:00 Kyiv time) and should end on Sunday, 2 November, at 5 a.m. ET (12:00 Kyiv time). Samsung announced the plan in September and says the downtime is needed for safe data migration and deployment. Samsung Community is available as a website and inside the Samsung Members app, so both are affected. Existing posts and comments will still be readable on the web while the system is down.

Back up what won't migrate

Samsung says not everything moves to the new version. According to the report, the data that won't migrate includes:

  • direct messages;
  • unpublished posts saved as drafts;
  • bookmarks;
  • subscriptions.

Accounts at Beginner Levels 1 and 2 that haven't signed in during the past six months won't have any of their data carried over at all.

Use Download My Data

You can save important things locally, take screenshots, or request a copy through the Download My Data option on Samsung's Account Privacy website. If a forum thread or DM helped you fix a problem with your phone, copy the steps somewhere safe before Thursday morning.

Expect new messaging rules

When the forum returns, you'll be able to start a direct message without typing a subject line, so conversations should feel more like a chat. The option to report individual messages goes away: you'll only be able to report a whole conversation.

Accepted solutions and deletion change

Only top-level comments can be marked as an accepted solution; replies further down a thread no longer qualify. Deleting gets stricter too: once someone comments on your post, you can no longer delete that post, and if your comment gets a reply, you can't delete your comment. Samsung hasn't shared other details of the overhaul yet.
