The Volkswagen Group says demand for its cheapest electric cars is outrunning the overall sales slump. In a 12 October delivery update, the company reported nearly 150,000 orders for its Electric Urban Car Family — the VW ID. Polo, ID. Cross, Škoda Epiq and CUPRA Raval — shortly after launch.

Europe leans electric

Sales chief Martin Sander said high fuel prices and more entry-level models are speeding the shift at home. Fully electric cars are about 40% of the group's European order book, and BEV order intake in Europe rose by more than 60% in Q3 versus a year earlier. One in five vehicles delivered in Europe is already all-electric, according to the same release. The European BEV order book has roughly doubled versus the end of 2025.

The wider scoreboard

  • 6.01 million vehicles delivered worldwide through September (−9% year on year).
  • Growth in South America (+4%), Western Europe (+1%) and Central/Eastern Europe (+5%) could not offset China (−30%) and North America (−4%).
  • Global BEV deliveries: 678,700 (−5%); European BEVs rose +20% in Q3 alone.
  • US BEV deliveries fell 78% after subsidy changes; China BEV deliveries were also down, though local EVs and PHEV/EREV models showed better momentum there.
  • Global PHEV + EREV deliveries: 368,000 (+23%).

Best-selling group BEVs year-to-date include the Škoda Elroq (92,200), VW ID.4/ID.5 (81,900) and Škoda Enyaq (72,700).

Why it matters

The numbers show a split market: Europe is ordering cheap EVs in volume, while China and the US are still dragging group totals. For shoppers, the message from Wolfsburg is that the small-EV wave (Polo/Cross/Epiq/Raval) is already a volume story on paper — deliveries will show whether factories keep up.
