Big-battery phones keep getting bigger. vivo's new Y600 is now on pre-order in China with a 10,000 mAh battery, and open sales start on October 30, GSMArena reports.

Battery and charging

The headline number is the battery. vivo says the Y600 earned a Guinness World Record for endurance after lasting 32 hours and 37 minutes in a continuous livestream test. That is one specific test, so real-world results will depend on how you use the phone, but it shows the kind of runtime the cell is built for.

Charging tops out at 44 W over a cable, and the phone can also top up other devices through reverse wired charging. With a battery this large, a full charge at 44 W will take a while, so a good wall charger matters; our USB-C charger guide explains what to look for.

Screen, chip and the rest

  • 6.83-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate;
  • MediaTek Dimensity 7300e chipset;
  • 50 MP main camera and 8 MP selfie camera;
  • under-display fingerprint reader, NFC and an IP68 rating.

GSMArena notes that the specs and design make the Y600 look like a China-market rebrand of the vivo S2 FE / V80 Lite, which also has a 10,000 mAh battery.

Why phones can fit 10,000 mAh now

Phones this size used to top out far lower. Many Chinese brands now use silicon-carbon anodes, which store more energy in the same space; vivo's listing for the Y600 doesn't spell out the chemistry. Our new explainer on silicon-carbon batteries covers how they work and their trade-offs. A big battery still wears over time, so it's worth knowing how to check phone battery health.
