Motorola's next flagship has shown up on Geekbench a few days before its launch. A Motorola Signature 27 running Android 17 with 12 GB of RAM scored 3,313 points in the single-core test and 11,088 in the multi-core test of Geekbench 7.1, GSMArena reports. Pre-launch units are not always tuned like retail phones, so final results may differ.

The phone was first shown in September at Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit and runs the new 2 nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, the faster of Qualcomm's two new flagship chips. Motorola has confirmed the official launch for 5 November.

What we know about the specs

Motorola has not published a full spec sheet yet. What it has confirmed:

  • Cameras: a 50 MP Sony LYT-910 main camera and a 200 MP periscope telephoto.
  • Cooling: an "ArcticMesh" system with a vapour chamber Motorola says is 40% larger than in the previous generation.
  • Updates: seven years of OS updates.
  • Audio tuned by Bang & Olufsen, and two colours: Pantone Coal Smoke and Pantone Capulet Olive.

A hands-on video by YouTuber Danny Winget, picked up by 9to5Google, adds more detail. It mentions a 6.8-inch 120 Hz LTPO "Extreme AMOLED Duo" display that uses Tandem OLED, a design that stacks two light-emitting layers to raise brightness and efficiency, with a quoted peak of 12,000 nits. The video also lists a 50 MP ultrawide and a separate sensor for motion capture. Battery capacity was not given; it was only called "sizable".

Why it matters

Tandem OLED has so far appeared mostly in laptops and tablets, such as Apple's new PROLED MacBook Pro, and only rarely in phones. If the 12,000-nit figure holds up, it will be one of the brightest phone screens on paper, although peak numbers usually apply to a small part of the screen for a short time. Prices and markets will be confirmed at launch.

The Signature 27 joins a busy month for Android flagships: OnePlus has just detailed the Ace 7 Pro.
