Rivian's fast-charging network grows 39% to 1,185 ports
Rivian Adventure Network now has 1,185 DC fast-charging ports at 165 US sites, up 39% in a year, while its slower Waypoints chargers barely grew. How it compares with Tesla.

Rivian keeps building its own fast chargers even though its drivers can already use Tesla's Superchargers. According to the company's third-quarter report, the Rivian Adventure Network (RAN) now has 1,185 DC fast-charging ports, 39% more than a year earlier, InsideEVs reports. The number of sites rose 26% to 165 across the United States.
What the network offers
RAN chargers deliver up to 300 kW from stalls designed for Rivian's trucks and SUVs, and the network is open to other EVs too. Rivian says the chargers are powered by 100% renewable energy. In practice that means each kilowatt-hour delivered is matched with renewable generation elsewhere, not that the power always comes from solar panels or wind turbines at the site.
Slower chargers are standing still
Rivian's Waypoints network of Level 2 (AC) chargers is a different story. It wasn't mentioned in the company's latest documents, and US Department of Energy data cited by InsideEVs shows Rivian added only ten 11 kW chargers this year. In total it runs 540 Waypoints chargers at 208 locations.
Still small next to Tesla
The growth is fast, but from a small base. For comparison, InsideEVs notes that Tesla operates more than 40,000 fast-charging ports at almost 3,300 US locations, plus about 14,000 Level 2 Destination Chargers at nearly 4,000 sites. Rivian owners have had access to many of those Superchargers via the NACS standard, which makes RAN more of a brand and reliability play than the only option.
The update comes alongside Rivian's strong R2 sales, covered in our Q3 report story. If you're new to EV charging, our guide to how long it takes to charge an EV explains fast vs Level 2 charging times, and the home EV charger guide covers the cheapest way to charge overnight.
