Footage of an Assassin's Creed game that never got announced has surfaced online. According to Eurogamer, which picked up the find from MP1st, the project was called Assassin's Creed Destiny and was being made for current consoles and PC at TiMi Studio Group, the Tencent-owned studio that also worked on the mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade.
What the footage shows
The clips come from the portfolios of people who worked on the game, so they are not official material. Most are from a prototype built in February 2025. Destiny was set in 206 BCE, nine years after Jade's 215 BCE.
- Main mission: a female assassin pushes into a sacred palace besieged by the army of warlord Xiang Yu, searching for a mysterious artefact. An early boss fight against Xiang Yu also appears.
- Series staples: stealth kills, parkour and the signature leap of faith.
- New ideas: in a test area the player spins an umbrella-like weapon, with ink-brush ability icons and a health bar on screen.
- Character choice: a male character also appears doing parkour takedowns, which MP1st reads as a sign players might have picked their hero's gender, though it may have been a placeholder.
Why it was cancelled
MP1st says TiMi announced a restructuring in January 2025, splitting into four teams, and Destiny was dropped not long after. It lists other cancelled TiMi projects, including the Greek-myth action game Athena and Invictus, a cyberpunk open-world game at TiMi's Montreal studio, which closed in February. Reuters reported in 2024 that Tencent was moving away from Western franchises with lower margins. Assassin's Creed Jade was delayed, not cancelled, and has no release date yet.
A rough week for Ubisoft
The leak lands in a hard week for the series' owner. Ubisoft has proposed closing RedLynx, the Finnish studio behind Trials, affecting up to 52 positions, and cut 70 roles at Ubisoft Singapore, the studio working on Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.
Cancelled games that never ship are one more reason players care about what happens to the games they do buy; see our report on the Power to the Players Act. And Rockstar has its own timeline worries: it says the game after GTA VI should come faster.
