Death Stranding Isolations anime gets first teaser for Disney+

Kojima Productions has released the first teaser for Death Stranding Isolations, the anime series based on Hideo Kojima's courier-in-the-apocalypse games. It is coming to Disney+ next year, Engadget reports.

What the teaser shows

The short clip borrows familiar motifs from the games, including a courier hauling cargo strapped high on their back. Most of it follows a girl who wakes in panic from nightmares of being consumed by BTs, the tar-like creatures that are hostile to the living. The series tagline is very much in the Kojima style: "My mom became a crater." Releasing it just before Halloween suits the mood.

The story so far

Isolations is an original story, not a retelling of either game. According to the synopsis on YouTube, it takes place right after the first game's hero, Sam Porter Bridges, reconnects North America through the Chiral Network. The girl has cut herself off from the outside world and prefers being alone, but chance encounters throw her into a world she no longer recognises.

Other characters include, in the synopsis's words, "a wise old man who connects people through a method that defies all reckoning", "a female soldier ensnared in a cycle of war and destruction" and "a boy who seethes with rage at the absurdity of his life".

Isolations is not the only adaptation. An animated film called Death Stranding Mosquito is in development, and so is a live-action movie that A24 is involved with.
