Honor has launched the Honor 600S in Malaysia, a new mid-range phone that focuses on a big battery and toughness rather than camera count. It costs RM1,299.
Key specs
- Display: 6.87-inch LCD, up to 120Hz.
- Chip: Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4.
- Memory: 4GB RAM + 256GB storage, the only configuration listed.
- Battery: 8,100mAh, with 45W wired charging.
- Cameras: a single 50MP main camera on the back and a 5MP hole-punch selfie camera.
- Durability: IP68, IP69 and IP69K water and dust ratings.
- Extras: a dedicated AI button that can trigger commands or open a chosen app, NFC, and a "400% volume boost" for the speaker.
- Colours: Desert Gold and Velvet Black.
What stands out
An 8,100mAh battery is unusually large for a phone at this price, and IP69K is the rating for resistance to high-pressure, high-temperature water jets, not just a dunk in the sink. That combination makes it a sensible pick for people who work outdoors or simply want to charge less often.
The trade-offs are clear too. An LCD instead of OLED, an entry-level Snapdragon 4-series chip and 4GB of RAM mean this is not a phone for gaming or heavy multitasking, and the single rear camera skips the ultrawide that many rivals include. Honor has not said how many years of Android updates the 600S will get.
Availability
The Star reports the price and specs for Malaysia only; Honor has not announced other markets yet. We will update this story if the phone launches elsewhere.
Our take
If battery life and ruggedness matter more to you than a premium screen, the 600S is worth a look. If you want an OLED panel and more RAM, it is worth comparing it with similarly priced models from Samsung's Galaxy A line and Xiaomi's Redmi Note range before buying.
